Let me clarify this should be used only on offroad vehicles and not on the highway. Follow all applicable laws in your state/country!
All the computer does is check the first O2 sensor in the exhaust bank and the checks the O2 sensor after the Cat or DPF. Based on the difference in the 2 readings the computer recognizes the cat and if the difference is within tolerance it will not throw a cel.
To correct the CEL on the car with a straight pipe system, all you need to do is put a piece of pipe around the sensor tip on the unit to limit the exhaust gases from reaching the sensor. This being it will show the computer the required difference between them and not throw the CEL.
This is will documented on the internet it has been around for years. If you don't have the money for a tune this is the cheapest way to do this. It generally costs less than $10. These types of devices can be found premade on ebay.
The most typical device that is used for this purpose is a Spark Plug non fouler. Below is a picture:
